A Muirlag, or mudag, is a basket that was historically made in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Used to keep wool in before carding, these baskets, were often made by the travelling people and were used during the wool spinning process. The wool to be carded, prior to spinning, was placed in the basket which was set in front of the fire. The heat from the fire softened the lanolin and the wool was much easier to work.
